Background --  St. Raymond’s is a large, Catholic cemetery located in The Bronx.  The new section of St. Raymond’s is close to the Whitestone Bridge and readily accessible by car. Because so many Burgenlaenders ended up living in The Bronx, this cemetery by far contains the largest number of Burgenlaenders who emigrated to the New York City area and passed away since the mid-1950’s when the new section was opened.

General Observations --  Tombstone markings at this cemetery are good. Office staff will provide a cemetery locator map for each person where a burial location is requested. As a result, burial sites are easy to find once grave locations are known. However, staff at the cemetery are not overly helpful, especially if they believe inquiries are being made for genealogy purposes. Because of the size of the cemetery, it is essential that you have a car to get around.

Burial Record Information --  Records for burial locations are maintained on a computerized database.  As long as a name and general timeframe of death is known, a burial site can be provided--- and in relatively quick order.

Office Hours --  The office is open daily from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. However, it closes at 12 noon on Saturdays, and is not open on Sunday.
