Background --  St. Raymond’s is a large, Catholic cemetery located in The Bronx. The old section of St. Raymond’s is located about a mile from the new section. The main entrance is off Tremont Ave. A number of streets bisect the cemetery. Many Burgenlaenders who ended up living in The Bronx and who passed away before the mid-1950’s are buried here, along with their spouses who may have died at a later date.

General Observations --  Tombstone markings in the old section of St.Raymond’s are not as good as in the new section.  Office staff, however, will provide a cemetery locator map for each person where a burial location is requested.  As a result, burial sites can be found once grave locations are known, but it might take some time to do so.  Moreover, it is essential that you have a car to get around.

Burial Record Information --  Most of the records for burial locations for the old section are maintained on ledger sheets – not on any computerized database. This information is available in the office in the new section. As long as a name and specific date of death is known, a burial site can be provided. Recent burials in the old section have been added to the computerized database, and the burial sites for these people are a little easier to obtain.

Office Hours --  The office is open daily from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. However, it closes at 12 noon on Saturdays, and is not open on Sunday.
