   Hermann Schaefer and family emigrated to America in 1856, leaving Hegensdorf, Germany and traveling from Bremen, Germany aboard the ship "New Orleans." They arrived in New Orleans, LA, on 29 Apr 1856 and traveled up the Mississippi river with two other families from Hegensdorf: the Michael Ostwald family and the Casper Schäfers family. The Ostwald family joined relatives in New Vienna, IA, but the Schaefer and Schäfers families went on to Minnesota and settled near Roscoe in Munson Township in Stearns County. The exact date of arrival is not known.
   The Hegensdorf website provides an "Auswanderer" (Emigrant) list for years 1824-1893 containing the names of the villagers who left Hegensdorf in the 19th century; most went to America. It was compiled by the area's historian, Heinz Lummer. It contains this entry for the Schaefer family: "1856 Schaefers, Hermann gen. Schojohann Hnsr. 32 mit Familie; 2 Töchter, 6 Söhne; Ziel: Amerika." This translates to: "1856, Hermann Schaefer, known as 'Schojohann,' House number 32, with family; 2 daughters, 6 sons; Target: America." Despite this entry, there is another entry reading: "ca. 1857 Schafers, Johannes Henricus Antonius, geb. 22.03.1828; Zeil: Amerika (vermutlich)" which translates to: "about 1857, John Henry Anton Schaefer, born March 22, 1828; Target: America (supposed)." Thus it appears that one son may have remained behind for a year, most likely to complete the sale of family assets.

EDEN LAKE TOWN RESIDENT PASSES AWAY
Anton Schaefer, Aged 84, Died at his Home Sunday Noon
   Anton Schaefer, who lived two miles southeast of the village of Roscoe, one of the oldest and most respected residents of that vicinity died last Sunday, at the age of 84 years, following a short illness caused by the general breaking down of old age.
   He is survived by a widow and seven children, Mrs. Wenzel Link of Beardsley, Mrs. Henry Lubbers of Canada, Herman of St. Cloud, Ignatz, John and Anton who are at home. The funeral was held Tuesday morning and internment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Roscoe.
   The entire community unites with the bereaved family in morning Mr. Schaefer's death.

Mrs. Barbara Schaefer, 82, Dies Sunday -- Suffered Stroke
   Mrs. Barbara Schaefer, aged 82 years, died at 8:30 Sunday evening at her home in Roscoe as the result of a stroke. She was one of the prominent pioneers of the community and lived there most of her life, residing for some time on a farm near the village and for the past 20 years in the town. She was born in Germany.
   Funeral services will be held in St. Agnes Catholic church at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Rev. John Schirtz, pastor officiating, and interment will be made in the parish cemetery.
   Mr. Schaefer died in 1910. The mother leaves seven children who are Herman, Roscoe; Mrs. Wenzel Link, Browns Valley; Fred, St. Cloud; Ignatz, Richmond; John, Waite Park; Anthony, St. Cloud; and Mrs. Henry Lubbins, Saco, Mont. There also is one sister, Mrs. Ignatz Meyer, Roscoe.

   Roscoe, June 6. -- The five year old son of Anton Schaefer, of Roscoe, was drowned in a well on Bro. Schaefer's premises, Saturday of last week. At half past eleven the young lad was seen playing near the house and when he did not respond when called for dinner about noon, a search was immediately undertaken and the body was found in a well near by. Every effort was made to produce respiration but in vain, he had already breathed his last. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery. The funeral services which were largely attended by friends and relatives of the family, took place Monday morning at nine o'clock at St. Agnes church here. The family has the sympathy of the community at large in the hour of their sad bereavement.

   Richmond, Feb. 4. -- Mrs. Theresa Schaefer, wife of Frank Schaefer, Roscoe, died at the family home last Saturday after an illness of several months of consumption. Mrs. Schaefer was 52 years of age. A daughter is ill at the present time with the dread disease, three daughters dying within the past four years. The surviving family consists of a husband, two daughters and six sons, Misses Angela and Katherine Schaefer, and Messrs. John, Henry, Anton, Frank, Peter and Nick Schaefer. The funeral was held at Roscoe Monday morning, and the family has the sympathy of hosts of friends in Roscoe and Richmond.

Notes:
       Anton Wink's daughter, Theresia Crescentia Wink, was born Oct 15, 1849 in Württemberg, Germany. (Note: the 1870 and 1885 census list Württemberg, the 1875 census lists Baden, the 1880 census lists Hanover, and the 1895 census list Germany as her birth place.) Per the 1895 State census, she had lived in the US and Stearns County for 43 years, implying she came to the US and Minnesota about 1851. As Theresia was only two years old when she emigrated, it is likely that Anton and his wife also emigrated about 1851.
   In the 1870 Federal census, this name appeared in the Frank & Theresia (Wink) Schaefer household: Anton Wink; age 11 (born about 1859) in Wisconsin. Anton is Theresia's younger brother, so the Wink's must have passed through Wisconsin about 1859, making questionable Theresia's claim of being in Stearns County since age 2.
   In the 1885 Minnesota census, these names appeared in the Frank & Theresia (Wink) Schaefer household: John Wink, age 16 (born about 1869) in Minnesota; Mary Wink, age 14 (born about 1871) in Minnesota. They are Theresia and Anton's younger siblings. This would imply that that family lived in Minnesota in 1869-1871.

Anton Schaefer, 53, of Melrose, died Wednesday, November 18, at 9:15 o'clock. He had been sick for three weeks. Mr. Schaefer lived in St. Cloud before he moved to Melrose three years ago. He was born in Munson Township, April 16, 1878. Surviving are three brothers, all of Roscoe.
   Until the time of the funeral, the body will be at the Miller funeral home at Melrose. Services will be held Friday, November 20, at 10 o'clock at the St. Agnes church at Roscoe, Rev. John Schrity officiating. Burial will be at the Roscoe cemetery.

   ROSCOE, Minn. --- Fred Schaefer, 93, of here died Tuesday at the Assumption Nursing Home, Cold Spring, Minn. He was born Nov. 15, 1877, and lived in this area most of his life.

John K. Schaefer Died Wednesday Morning; Funeral Saturday 9:30
   John K. Schaefer died at 2:30 Wednesday morning at his home in Richmond at the age of 70 years. He suffered with heart trouble for the last eleven months.
   He was born in the Town of Munson near Roscoe on the farm now occupied by Math Wies on February 8, 1868. He was married to Barbara Weiss July 2, 1912. The newly weds went to housekeeping on the farm now occupied by John Niewind two miles east of Roscoe.
   Nine children were born to the union of whom eight survive. They are: Mrs. Anna Pierz and Alex of Roscoe, Marie of Paynesville, Theresia, Crescentia, Clara, Dorraine and Madeline at home.
   Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 9:30. The requiem mass will be read in SS. Peter and Paul church here and interment will be made in St. Agnes cemetery at Roscoe.

Funeral services were held on June 16 at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Litchfield with Msgr. John Ward officiating. Internment was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Roscoe.

   Barbara T. Schaefer, 91, of Litchfield, died at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital on June 14, 1982. She had been ill for a month. She is survived by seven children, Mrs. Theo. (Anna) Rodgers of Grove, OK, Alex Schaefer of Sartell, Mrs. Reuben (Marie) Schmidt of Litchfield, Mrs. Earnest (Crescentia) Bastin of Waverly, Mrs. Bernard (Clara) Steichen of Litchfield, Mrs. Leo (Dorraine) Donabauer of Kimball, Mrs. Earl (Madeline) Bastin of St. Cloud; 55 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph Weiss of Orient, SD and Jake Weiss of Milaca and three sisters, Mary Bransch of Reseda, CA, Anna Schaefer of St. Paul and Theresia Babcock of Milwaukee, WI.
   Barbara was born to Joseph and Theresia Weiss in Stearns County on May 18, 1891. On July 2, 1912, she married John K. Schaefer in Roscoe. She had lived in Roscoe, St. Cloud, Grove, OK, Richmond and in Litchfield.
   Preceding her in death were her husband; a daughter, a son, five grandchildren, a great-great grandson; her parents, five brothers; 13 nieces and a nephew.
   Funeral services for Barbara Schaefer were held at St. Philip's Catholic Church on June 16 with Msgr. John C. Ward officiating. St. Philip's Choir provided the hymns with Mrs. Leo Plut as organist. Pallbearers were Neal Steichen, Bart Pirz, Dean Bastin, Earnest Bastin Jr., Ralph Schmidt and James Donabauer. Internment was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Roscoe.
   Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Grove, OK; Augusta, GA; Sartell, Litchfield, Waverly, Kimball, St. Cloud, Darwin, Roscoe, Eden Valley, Paynesville, Willmar, Clara City, Sauk Rapids, Blaine, Delano, Minnetonka, Dassel, Montrose, Hopkins, Richmond, Buffalo, Annandale, Richfield, Silver Lake, Manannah and Grove City.

   Alvis was born January 8, 1904, in Richmond to John and Catherine (Huschle) Ludwig. He attended elementary school in rural Richmond. He worked for farmers until he and Theresia Schaefer were married at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe on June 14, 1938. They farmed in Eden Lake Township until they retired in 1972. He resided at the Good Samaritan Home from March 1980 until January 1990. He then lived at Koronis Manor. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Roscoe.

   Alex J. Schaefer, age 66, of 500 1st St. N.E. Sartell, was born July 9, 1916, in Munson Township, rural Stearns County to the late John and Barbara (Weiss) Schaefer. He married Jennie Lucille Staneart Oct. 25, 1939, in St. Cloud. He lived most of his life in Sartell. He worked for St. Regis Paper Co. for 18 years & also was employed as a construction worker. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 254, Sauk Rapids , and VFW Post 6992, Sauk Rapids.

Marie H. Schmidt, 82, of Litchfield, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2000, at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Litchfield.
   The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 24, at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, with Father Peter Nosbush officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Litchfield.
   Marie Helena Schmidt was born on Jan. 5, 1918, in Roscoe, Minn., to John and Barbara (Weiss) Schaefer. She grew up in Roscoe and attended grade school there through the eighth grade.
   On Nov. 15, 1937, Marie married Reuben W. Schmidt of Paynesville in St. Cloud. Besides being a homemaker and mother, she worked at Fingerhut from 1965 to 1980 and at the Litchfield Garment Factory from 1980 to 1995, when she retired.
   Marie is survived by two daughters, Alice (Joe) Thissen of Clara City and Kathy (Corey) Holtz of Minnetonka; two sons, Ralph (Doris) Schmidt of Longville and Robert (Toni) Schmidt of Willmar; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Anna Rodgers of Foley, Clara (Bernie) Steichen of Litchfield, Crescentia Bastin of Buffalo, Dorraine (Leo) Donabauer of Kimball, and Madeline (Jim) Bastin of St. Cloud; and many nieces and nephews.
   Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; two brothers, Alex and Wilfred Schaefer; sister, Theresa Ludwig; and great-grandson, Cole McCann.

Crescentia Barbara "Cressy" Bastin, 78, of Buffalo died Sunday, May 27, 2001 at Abbott - Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
   Crescentia Bastin was born July 8, 1922 in Roscoe, Minn. the daughter of John and Barbara Weiss Schaefer.
On March 27, 1940 Crescentia Schaefer and Ernest Charles Bastin were joined in holy marriage at St. Cloud. God blessed their marriage with eight children.
   Mrs. Bastin was formerly employed for more than twenty years at Tonka Toys in Mound. Crescentia "Cressy" was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #4695 in Hurst, Texas.
   Cressy was the loving mother of Doris (John) Borg of McGregor, Ernest (Betty) Bastin and Richard (Judy) Bastin all of Fort Worth, Texas, Dennis (Joyce) Bastin of Courtland, Diane (Mike) Townsend of Maple Lake, Barb (Tobin) Payne and Vicki (Jeff) Goodale all of Buffalo and Lori (Roger) Leifson of Maple Lake; 27 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sisters Anna Rodgers of Foley, Clara (Bernard) Steichen of Litchfield, Dorraine (Leo) Donabauer of Kimball and Madeline "Tweets" (James) Bastin of St. Cloud; many other relatives and friends. Cressy was preceded in death by her husband Ernest C. Bastin in 1987, two sisters and a brother.
   Funeral services for Cressy Bastin will be held Thursday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Pastor John P. Folkerds will officiate. Interment Camp Lake Cemetery near Clear Lake, Minnesota on Friday, June 1. Friends may call at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo on Wednesday, May 30 from 4-8 p.m. Sherril Borg will be the vocalist for the funeral service. "On Eagles' Wings" will be sung as the Congregational hymn. Honorary casket bearers will be Lyle Bastin, Chad Davidson, Jeremy Davidson, Nathan Payne, Nicholas Decker, Mitchell Payne, Randy Leifson, Cody Leifson and Dominic Goodale.   Clara Steichen, the daughter of John and Barbara (Weiss) Schaefer was born on September 26, 1923, in Roscoe, MN. She attended school in Roscoe, Cold Spring and St. Cloud, MN. At a young age, she worked to help support her family. Clara was united in marriage to Bernard Steichen at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Cloud, on July 2, 1949. She was a nurse's aid while living in St. Cloud, and later helped with the bookkeeping for Litchfield Shipping Association. She was a member of the Church of St. Philip and active in the Ladies Aid. Clara enjoyed being a caregiver, and was an excellent seamstress and cook. She was talented in sewing, knitting, needlework and embroidery. She made clothing, including many wedding and bridesmaids dresses for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her apple pie baking marathons and for her Christmas goodie boxes filled with baked goods. Clara enjoyed baking, cooking, canning, collecting angels, fishing, playing cards, bingo, puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.
  Clara is survived by her children: Linda (Dennis) Witucki of Silver Lake, MN, Tom (Lois) Steichen of Winston-Salem, N.C., Jane Steichen of Litchfield, MN, Judy (Robert) Fuller of Seabrook, TX.    Bernard "Bernie" Joseph Steichen, the son of John and Francis (Zwilling) Steichen, was born on April 3, 1924 in Pearl Lake, MN. He attended the Pearl Lake school district. Bernard was united in marriage to Clara Schaefer at the Holy Angels Catholic Chuch in St. Cloud on July 2, 1949. He lived in St. Augusta and later moved to the Ed. Marklowitz Sr. farm where he helped as a farm hand for two years. In 1951 he moved into Litchfield. Bernard worked for Litchfield Shipping Association for 26 years where he was the manager for many years. He later was a Cenux bulk fuel driver before retiring at age 62. Bernard was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed small engine maintenamce and repair, fishing, playing cards and going out for coffee with the guys.

  Jane Marie Steichen, the daughter of Bernard and Clara (Schaefer) Steichen, was born on December 2, 1951 in Litchfield, MN. She grew up and received her education in Litchfield, graduating from Litchfield High School in 1969. She was employed at the Litchfield Garment Company, the Litchfield Office Supply Company, Pamida and Walmart. She was a member of the Church of St. Philip. Jane enjoyed reading, sewing, baking and putting together care packages for her nieces and nephews during the holidays. She will be remembered as a special aunt, as a caregiver for her parents, and small in stature but big in generosity.

   Mary Lisa Steichen, four-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Steichen of Litchfield, died Sunday at University Hospital, where she had been a patient for a day. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 8 a.m., at St. Philip's Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Myles McGowan officiating. Internment was in Calvary Cemetery.

PAUL SCHAEFER...
   Paul Schaefer, 89, a longtime Montana resident, died of natural causes on Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Community Hospital in Missoula.
   Visitation and remembrance will be at 3 p.m., Monday, March 19, at Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula. Military graveside services and burial will be at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison near Helena, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 20. Memorials are suggested to the State Veterans Cemetery.
   Paul was born in Roscoe, Minn. Sept. 7, 1911, the second of four children born to Frank and Teresa (Niewind) Schaefer. He was orphaned at an early age and worked to support his family. During his formative years and including the Great Depression, he developed lifelong values of work and self-reliance. He moved from Minnesota to Rudyard in 1936, where he worked on wheat and cattle ranches until entering the U.S. Army in 1942.
   Paul returned to Montana after his World War II military service. He worked at the air base in Great Falls as a plant operator in 1945. He transferred to the Veterans Administration at Fort Harrison in 1946, where he worked as a stationary engineer at the central heating plant until his retirement in 1976.
   Paul married Beatrice (Trumbull) McNeil in Helena in 1948. They lived in Helena for over 43 years. He was a loving and devoted husband. He was a straightforward, honest and generous man who left a lasting influence on his children and grandchildren. Paul particularly enjoyed gardening and yard work. After retirement, he was active in Helena Senior Center activities. Paul believed in and practiced a citizen’s responsibilities and was involved in the political process throughout his life. Paul and Bea moved to Missoula in 1991.
   Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; brothers, Ben and Leo Schaefer and sister, Marie Simpson. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn Sewell of Missoula; son, Murray McNeil of Lincoln; four grandchildren: Pamela Soto of San Diego, Calif., Marc Sewell and Merry Morse of Billings and Jane Sewell of Missoula; eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and 14 nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.

   MISSOULA - Beatrice Louise (Trumbull) Schaefer, R.N., 91, a lifelong Montana resident and retired registered nurse, died of natural causes on Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Village Health Care Center in Missoula. She was known to family and friends as "Bea."
Bea was born in Helena on May 30, 1908, the first of six children born to Willis and Edna (Brien) Trumbull, both of whom were pioneer railroad telegraphers in Montana. She was baptized by Brother Van (the Rev. William Wesley Van Orsdel), the noted traveling Methodist preacher of early Montana. Bea was raised on the Hi-Line, attending public schools in Lothair and Chester. She attended Intermountain Academy and College in Helena and took nurses training at Kennedy Deaconess Hospital in Havre, graduating in 1932. She took post-graduate nurses training in obstetrics at Chicago Lying-In Hospital, 1932-33.
   Bea married Glen McNeil of Malta in 1934. They lived near Ronan and had two children before his death in 1938. She worked as an R.N. in Malta and at Thornton's Hospital in Missoula. She served as an R.N. at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Fort Harrison from 1942 to 1953.
   It was while nursing at "the Fort" that she met a patient who was to become her beloved husband and life companion for over 51 years. Bea married Paul Schaefer of Roscoe, Minn., on June 26, 1948, in Helena, where they made their home for the next 43 years. After leaving the VA, she continued her nursing career in Helena as a private duty nurse and at St. John's and St. Peter's hospitals. Bea retired in 1976, after a nursing career that spanned 45 years.
   She held offices in the Montana Nurses Association, KDH Alumni Association, and Helena Senior Citizens, and was a delegate to the Montana Legacy Legislature. In addition to her profession, Bea enjoyed playing the piano, church, alumni reunions, volunteer work, senior center activities and corresponding with family and friends. Bea and Paul moved to Missoula in 1991.
   Bea was preceded in death by her infant sister Emily; brothers Charles and Willard Trumbull, and sister Helen Boice.
   She is survived by her husband Paul; sister Mary Zoe Craig of Missoula; daughter Marilyn Sewell of Missoula; son Murray McNeil of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Pamela Soto and Jane Sewell of Missoula, and Marc Sewell and Merry Morse of Billings; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and 10 nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all.
   A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, at Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula, followed by graveside services and burial at the Montana Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison, near Helena, at 3 p.m.

   Jo Winkelman age 51, of rural Sauk Rapids, was born May 11, 1946 in Roscoe Minnesota to John and Anna (Schaefer) Pirz. She married Jim Winkelman August 13, 1966 at St. Francis Xavior Catholic Church in Sartell. She had lived in rural Sauk Rapids all of her married life and had worked at Mimbach Fleet in Sauk Rapids for the past year. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Duelm where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and a Pro Life chairperson.

Obituary: Ralph Reuben Schmidt (August 18, 1938 - April 19, 2011)
    Ralph Reuben Schmidt, 72, of Longville, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, April 19, 2011 while on a hunting trip with his son Tim, and "other son", Jeff Neuman. Ralph was born August 18, 1938 in Paynesville, Minnesota to Reuben and Marie (Schaefer) Schmidt.
    At the age of 17 he enlisted in the National Guard, and then graduated from Eden Valley High School. Following graduation he attended Humboldt Institute (Dunwoody) for two years in the Air Traffic Control Program. He returned to Litchfield, working at Harding Dry Cleaners prior to his marriage to Doris Albrecht on February 25, 1961. Ralph then continued his career with the Minnesota Army National Guard, beginning in Litchfield as a private first class, and moved up in rank. In 1990 Ralph was transferred to Battalion Headquarters in Willmar, retiring in 1997 as a Command Sergeant Major after 41 years of service. During his military tenure Ralph was stationed in Guatemala, Norway, Alaska, and multiple other bases on training and humanitarian missions. Ralph’s name is listed on the National Guard Memorialization Wall at the museum at Camp Ripley in honor of his exemplary service to our country.
    In 1994 Ralph and Doris moved to the Longville area where they enjoyed their retirement years on beautiful Hunter Lake. Ralph will be remembered as "the handyman of Hunter Lake". He meant so much to so many because of all the little things he did for others. He was a man of character, who had a servant heart and showed his love and care of others through his many acts of kindness. Ralph loved to spend time snowmobiling, fishing (especially ice fishing), and hunting, and had a special enjoyment for polka music. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Longville, served as a church usher, was Road Supervisor for Wabedo Township, was Vice President of the Hunter Lake Association, and a member of the Manannah Sno-Blazers Snowmobile Club.
    Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Doris Schmidt, daughter Deb (Tom) McCann, Son Tim (Jodi) Schmidt, four grandchildren; Alaina (Adrian) Martinez, Zac (Laci) McCann, Tyler Schmidt, Taryn Schmidt, three great grandchildren; Diego Martinez, Tripp McCann, and Jacquelyn McCann, brother Bob (Toni) Schmidt, sisters; Alice (Joe) Thissen, Kathy (Corey) Holtz, his "bonus Dad" Arnie Ohnstad, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Marie, grandson Cole McCann, and nephew David Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville with Pastor John Monson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with full military honors.

   Michael Craig Townsend, age 51, of Henning, and formerly of Maple Lake, died Jan. 10, 2003. Funeral services were Jan. 14, 10 a.m., at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Maple Lake, with Pastor David Martens officiating. He married Carrie Saatzer on September 10, 1983. Dean was currently employed as a pipefitter/welder with El-Jay Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union #539. Dean's favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and attending his children's activities. His greatest pleasure was being with his family and friends and always living life to the fullest.

Linda L. Teicher, Feb. 5, 1956 - May 10, 2001
   PAYNESVILLE - Linda L. Teicher, 45, of Eden Valley, died Thursday at her home after a long battle with cancer. The funeral will be 11 a.m. on Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville with the Rev. Richard Koehn and the Rev. Linda Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Paynesville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Sunday and after 10 a.m. on Monday at Grace United Methodist Church. Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville is handling arrangements.    She was born on Feb. 5, 1956, in St. Cloud, the daughter of Allen and Eleanor (Schaefer) Schultz. She grew up in Paynesville on her parents' mink farm. She graduated from Paynesville High School in 1974. She worked at Animal Fair in Eden Valley and later at Eden Valley-Watkins Elementary School where she was a special education assistant. She married Steve Teicher in 1977 at Grace United Methodist Church. They later divorced. She was a lifelong member of the church, made two Red Bird Mission Trips and was active on the youth and revision committees.    She is survived by her children Chad and Lisa of Eden Valley; one sister Deborah (and Dan) Stanger of Paynesville; two brothers Nick Schultz of Grove City and Steve (and Ruth) Schultz of Paynesville; two nieces; three nieces; and three great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial are preferred in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society.

   David A. Schmidt, Oct. 4, 1965 -- Oct. 14, 2006
WILLMAR -- David A. Schmidt, 41, of Ladysmith, Va., formerly of Willmar, died Saturday at Memorial Regional Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
   The service will be at 11 a.m. today at Wrights Chapel United Methodist Church in Ladysmith, Va. There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Oct. 28 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar.
   Arrangements are with Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green, Va. Memorial are preferred to Wrights Chapel UMC in Ladysmith or Carmel Christian Academy in Ruther Glen, Va.
   He was born Oct. 4, 1965, in Litchfield to Bob and Toni Schmidt. He was an Army veteran. He married Jo Ann Monk. He worked as a diesel mechanic with Penske in Ashland, Va.
   He is survived by his wife; children: Sabrina Gobel of Marion, Va., Francene Champlain of Chilesburg, Va., Johnathon Schmidt of Ladysmith, Va.; two grandchildren; his parents of Willmar; and two siblings: Julie Schmidt of Willmar and Tom Schmidt of Litchfield.
