Question: I have bulk poppyseeds available cheaply at my store but not the canned fillings. How do I make the filling? Grind up the seeds with sugar? Does it need to be cooked?
Answer: Poppyseed filling (for previous amount of dough-2 rolls) does not need to be cooked.
- 2 cups ground poppy seed - use fine blade of grinder
- mix with 1/2 cup sugar (can be added when grinding poppy seeds)
- add grated lemon rind to taste (try 1 Tbsp.)
- pinch of cinnamon (optional)
- enough milk or cream to make a moist spreadable paste
Spread on rolled dough; top with 1/2 cup raisins if desired.
