Another recipe from cookbook Recipes for the New Millennium (© 2000, Morris Press),
subtitled "A Collection of Recipes from Former and Present Parishioners of Holy Ghost Church, Bethlehem, PA."
I was unable to find a picture with of Dios Torte topped with chocolate frosting... so you'll have to use your
imagination on that part. Regardless, I'm already imagining that it tastes wonderful!
(from Rosemarie Schadle)
14 Tbsp. ground walnuts | 12 tsp. sugar |
12 eggs (separated) | 2 tsp. baking powder |
7 Tbsp. flour | 1 tsp. vanilla |
Beat egg yolks with sugar until thick and lemon colored. Slowly blend in dry ingredients. Add ground nuts and vanilla. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into greased and floured cake pans. Bake 30-35 minutes in 350°F oven.
1/4 c. milk | 1 Tbsp. sugar |
1/2 lb. ground nuts |
Heat milk and sugar. Pour over nuts. Spread between layers of cake when cool.
4 squares unsweetened chocolate | 1 c. powdered sugar |
2 Tbsp. hot water | 1/2 c. sweet butter |
2 eggs (well beaten) |
Cut chocolate in pieces. Melt in top of double boiler. Add hot water and blend. Add eggs and sugar. Remove from heat but allow mixture to stand over hot water, stirring constantly until slightly thickened. Cool to lukewarm. Add butter, 2 tablespoons at a time. Stir and blend.
