mir träumte, wie mich David rief,
daß ich sollt dichten und reimen
von drei Königen, drei frommen,
die in unser Land sind kommen.

I dreamed, how David called me,
that I shall write and rhyme
of three kings, three pious men,
who into our country will come.
Stichel:

In einen Stall ging ich hinein,
drin waren Ochs und Eselein,
die standen vor einer Krippe.
Von edler Art eine Jungfrau zart
saß auch drin in dem Stalle.

 Stichel:

Into a stable went I within,
therein were oxen and donkeys,
standing before a crib.
From gentle birth a Virgin tender
sat also within the stable.

Mir träumet, daß ein Engel käm
und führte mich nach Bethlehem,
ins jüdische Land so ferne.
Ein Kind in einem Krippelein
lag dort bei einem Eselein.

I dreamed, that an angel came
and guided me to Bethlehem,
into Jewish country so far.
