Antau (Selegszántó, Ottova until 1906; Kroat: Otava)
Community of 708 residents in the Mattersburg district.
A linear village with 700 inhabitants. First mentioned in 1245, it was most likely an earlier Roman settlement or "Villa
Rustica." In the high middle ages it was in the possession of the family Osl then passed to one Seifried of Antau and
the Family Kanizsai. Later it passed to the hands of the Esterhazys. Croatians settled in the area during the Turkish
times.
Church of Hl. Andreas is the church of Antau parish, built in 1683 following the destruction of the previous church.
Antau is in the heart of the Wulka Valley, lying directly by the Wulka river. It still has both Croat and German
inhabitants. There is a 750 year old village square.
