Zuberbach
Village of 230 residents in the Oberwart district.
Zuberbach (Hungarian: Szabar; Croatian: Sabara) is a village with a predominantly ethnic Croat
population in district Oberwart.
It was Croatian before 1524, Hungarian from 1524 to 1683, Austrian from 1683 to 1868, Hungarian
again from 1868-1921, then Austrian from 1921 to the present. The Croatians came in 1524 fleeing the
Turkish invasion of the Balkans. See information on this in our newsletter series starting with

Zuberbach has its Roman Catholic parish in Dürnbach (Incéd) -- FamilySearch films 700671 and 700672
(1828-1888, 1888-1895), while civil recording are in Weiden bei Rechnitz -- FamilySearch films
665230 and 665231(1895-1920).
