Top Frank Leitgeb Frank P. Leitgeb, 97, formerly of Coplay, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 29, 2021 at Above and Beyond at the Knights in Allentown. He was the beloved husband of the late Antoinette "Toni" Leitgeb for 49 years before her passing in 2001. Born in Langzeil, Austria, he was the son of the late Anton and Theresa (Pöltl) Leitgeb. Frank worked as a skilled mechanic in the construction department at PP&L for 15 years before retiring in 1986. Prior to that, he was a silo operator in Lehigh Portland Cement packhouse for 27 years. He was a faithful member, contributor, and usher at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Whitehall, and a member of Holy Name Society. He coached girls softball for Coplay Sports and bowled for many years, becoming a life member of the Coplay Saengerbund. He could often be heard whistling or yodeling, had a great sense of humor, and could figure out how to fix or build just about anything. Frank learned the basics of working with wood from his father, who was great with hand tools, then greatly expanded his skills with power tools. He enjoyed going to woodworking fairs with his nephew Michael. Frank made numerous pieces of his own furniture, custom-made and installed his own kitchen and bathroom cabinets, as well as bookcases and room dividers. His peak woodworking skills are evident in the intricate scroll saw pieces that he created, often working into the wee hours of the morning (until his wife had to call him to bed!) Frank is survived by three daughters, Antoinette H. Gooch and husband Richard, Jean M. Gailie and husband Ken, and Fran F. Kohlbrenner, two grand-daughters Keira Kohlbrenner and Kalli Kohlbrenner, great-grandson Antonio, sister Frieda T. Scherr, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Brubaker Funeral Home, 327 Chestnut St., Coplay, PA 18037. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Whitehall. Online condolences for the family may be recorded at www.brubakerfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Frank's memory to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org). Published by Morning Call on Oct. 19, 2021 Top Vince Teklits Vince Teklits, 83, of Saddle Brook, New Jersey, passed away on October 6, 2021. Born on July 1, 1938 in Szentpéterfa (Petrovo Selo/Prostrum), Hungary, he was the oldest son of Janos and Johanna (Temmel) Teklits and was predeceased by his siblings Gisella (Teklits) Milisits and Istvan Teklits. He was the beloved brother of Clotilda (Teklits) Timar and Peter Teklits. In the fall of 1956, after the Hungarian Revolution, Vince left Szentpéterfa with some friends and arrived in the United States by boat on January 1, 1957. Vince settled in the Yorkville section of Manhattan, learned English at night school and had a variety of jobs. With his friends from Szentpéterfa, weekends were spent socializing at places like Wagner Casino. Bands played Austrian and Hungarian music, and it was there that he met Mary Ann Jost. Their love story began during that meeting and he proposed to Mary Ann during a Midnight Mass. They married on September 21, 1963 and have spent the last 58 years happily married. Vince and Mary Ann were joined by their daughter Susanne one year after their wedding and followed by their son Vincent three years later. Later, Vince’s American family grew with the addition of Ed and Noreen. He was a loving husband, father, and father-in-law who set an example of unconditional love all of those years. In 1994, Vince became a grandfather when Michelle was born. Matthew, Andrew, and Laura followed shortly after and Vince became “Didi”. He spent the last 27 years being the best grandfather, sharing his interests of fishing, hockey, soccer, gardening, and wine making. He spent countless hours fishing with his son and grandsons, the only time he ever taught patience even if fishing trips started at four in the morning. Didi spent his life teaching his family what truly matters in this world. At the age of 18 he left everything he knew for a brighter future with freedoms he wasn’t born with. He taught his family how to value that freedom. Loving your family and friends, taking time to do the activities you enjoy, having faith through the good times and bad, and taking every opportunity to smile. Didi has left a huge void in the hearts of his family. More importantly, he left us an example of how to be a good person even in a world that can be very difficult, by caring for the things that matter the most. A Funeral Mass was said on Saturday, October 9,2021 at Immaculate Conception RC Church, 49 Vreeland Ave., Hackensack at 10:00 AM. Burial followed in Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. Even while in Hospice, Mary inquired about the state of her beloved Singer sewing machine. Retirement was filled with gardening and enjoying her grandchildren. O'Brien, of Delmar, New York, was together with family when she passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the age of 85. She is now in Heaven reunited with her devoted husband James. Stella was the daughter of Josef and Gisela Schlener, born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and raised in Poppendorf, Austria. Her life was interesting from the very beginning. After surviving WW-II as a little girl, she traveled daily from the Russian Zone to a British Zone where she attended school and was able to learn English. She was very active in theater, music, and took private typing classes. In 1951, visitors from the United States came to her house to bring a ring as a gift from her Godfather. They invited her to come to America since she was an American citizen. This became her miracle and with her parent’s permission she moved to the country that she came to love. Stella’s friendly, outgoing personality opened many doors for her in America. She had many wonderful and interesting employers, and worked for McGraw and Hill Publishing Company. She was a nanny and managed the household of a Naval Captain as well as a vascular surgeon. At age 19 she traveled to Europe to visit her parents. There she met the love of her life on the famous Orient Express train, a handsome gentleman in the Air Force, Dr. James P. O’Brien. After his discharge they got married and were blessed with 62 years of very happy marriage, as well as two wonderful children. Stella enjoyed travel to many places, including Italy, Spain, many other European countries, and several Island nations. She became a nurse and worked at Albany Medical Center Hospital while her beloved husband James went to medical school and became a neurosurgeon. Retiring when she became a mother, Stella spent many happy years with her family skiing, traveling, and enjoying life. She was a caring, loving supporting wife and mother. Wherever she went, Stella met many interesting people and had fascinating experiences. She made lifelong friends simply by sitting next to them on an airplane, was honored by an airline for being it’s 5000th passenger, leading to a surprise visit from Austrian politicians, the president of an Austrian-American organization, and a large brass band. She even was a winner on the television game show “I Guess”, hosted by Bill Cullen. Her kindness, generosity, honesty, and love of life combined with her deep Catholic beliefs to bring her much love and joy with her family, relatives, and friends. She was deeply grateful for those blessings. Stella is survived by her dearly beloved daughter, Heather O’Brien (Jim Smith), her step-granddaughters Rachel and Julianna Smith, and her step-great-grandson Grayson. She is also survived by her loving son Brendan O’Brien and her granddaughters Cassidy and Ella O’Brien, as well as many nieces and nephews, and cousins in Canada and Austria. Countless others saw her as a mother figure, including many who didn’t enjoy the loving family bonds she had, as she made sure to impart her love on those souls throughout her life. In addition to her parents and husband, Stella was also predeceased by her brothers, Julius and Josef Schlener. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 5 from 4 to 7 pm at Applebee Funeral Home, 403 Kenwood Ave., Delmar. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 am Saturday, March 6 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands at a later date. Published in Toronto Star on Jan. 29, 2021 Top Louis Geosits Allentown, Pennsylvania; December 31, 1927 - January 15, 2021 Louis Geosits lived a remarkable life. Born in Szentpéterfa (Petrovo Selo / Prostrum), Hungary, he cut through the Iron Curtain in 1951 with his brother Steve, and together they escaped in search of a better life. He traversed Austria by foot, sleeping in barns by night and scooting across logs over rivers by day until he made it to Salzburg. He spent a few pleasant years in Salzburg working in a quarry, and when he was able, boarded a ship to America. Louis landed in Allentown and enjoyed the company of many other Hungarian refugees, among whom he would meet his wife, Veronica Geosits (Krajcic). Together they had two children, William Geosits and Richard Geosits. Louis learned English, and started a successful bricklaying business, where he, his sons, and numerous employees worked for 35 years. When Veronica got sick and required advanced medical care in the early 2000’s, Louis visited her at Holy Family Manor every single day, bringing vegetables from his garden to the caretakers who worked there. Louis had many hobbies that delighted him and those who knew him; his beautiful garden, his Hungarian baking, and his newly acquired toy-making skills. These hobbies (and the occasional Busch Beer) kept Louis sharp and active until the very end. An adored brother, a devoted husband, an exemplary father, an American Small-Businessman, an inspirational Grandfather- it is impossible to remember Louis Geosits as just one thing. His practical yet daring way of life will continue to amuse and influence those who loved him. Louis is survived by his sisters, Mary Remenyi, Anna Kerese, Paula Jurasits Józsefné, his sons, William Geosits and Richard Geosits, their wives, Diane Geosits and Patricia Geosits respectively, and four grandchildren, Michelle Geosits, Laura Geosits, Holly Peck, and Nicholas Geosits. Louis never told the same story twice. His sense of humor and overwhelmingly kind disposition touched everyone lucky enough to know him. His unusual combination of whimsy and total seriousness made him captivating, and incredibly wise. Louis Geosits will be fiercely missed and dearly remembered. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 21st at Holy Saviour Cemetery, 2575 Linden St., Bethlehem, PA at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Reichel Funeral Home, Northampton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Louis Geosits' name may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be offered above.
